Is "It's" a valid subject?
Is it a valid sentence to use "it's" as a subject?
For example:
It's true that they are happy.
Or is it required to use the correct form:
They are happy it's true.
A:
Yes, it is a valid sentence.
In spoken language, it is the most common and most useful tense of the present simple.
A:
No. There are two reasons that it's not valid:
It's is not a form of the present tense of is (to be).
It's is not the subject of a sentence.
A sentence is a combination of a verb, a subject, and an object. To be grammatical, the sentence must be a compound subject/object/verb.
It is true that they are happy.
This is grammatical because it has a compound subject/verb: "It is true that they are happy."
There's is a form of the verb to be. It's is not. You cannot say:
It's true that there's a blue sky.
You can say:
There's a blue sky. It's true.
If you want to be absolutely sure, you can use a form of the verb is. It's is just a short way of saying is, and it's probably a less common way. There's isn't.
